Absolutely ecstatic with the news of sandboxer Marita Cheng receiving the award for "Young Australian of the Year"! Marita was with us in Lisbon for the Sandbox Global Summit this past weekend, but had to leave early to accept this incredible award from Austrailias Prime Minister. Marita studies engineering and teaches highschool girls about engineering and technology through her global organization robogals.
Congrats Marita, may this be the first of many more well deserved awards to come! See you soon in NYC.
If you know me, you know I'm completely fine with speaking to a group of people, but I am absolutely not a fan of being interviewed, especially not on video. Ask my patient friend and video producer Barry and he'll certainly confirm! Either way, it was an aboslute honor to be interviewed by Bloomberg Businessweek and love that they're strong supporters of Sandbox and young entrepreneurs across the globe.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Sandbox Demo Night last Tuesday. We had a full house and some excellent ideas and best practices were shared. Special thanks to Nirav for leading the event, Kane for organizing, Mattan for presenting his challenge and especially Nihal and the Local Response team for hosting us!
On my return to New York after this incredible expedition to Los Cabos, I found it difficult to put the experience into words. I wasn't alone but thankfully the very skilled Jonathan Olinger documented the essence of the weekend and crafted this beautiful video that we'll have to remind ourselves for years to come.
We spent 3 days at the ocean, with 80 of the most open-minded, inspiring innovators. We shared lively conversations over delicious mexican food, learned skills from eachother through interactive sessions on anything from productivity, entrepreneurship, yoga, storytelling, martial arts, origami, how to manage a relationship when living how we do, poker etc etc... Not one business card was shared and I don't even think anyone was asked the dreaded "what do you do?".
In the words of sandboxer and spoken word poet Phil Kaye:
“I genuinely believe that 30 years from now, when I’m (hopefully) around and balding and reminiscing about how phones used to be a literal object that you had to carry around in your pocket, I’ll still remember this past weekend as one of complete discovery. Thanks for that.”
